# UK meets bridge milestone on new high-speed rail track ## Network Rail completes construction milestone on new multi-billion pound high-speed rail link ### Completion of the bridge will enable 1,300-tonne beams to be lifted into place in the new year and marks a major step towards completion Completion of the bridge will enable 1,300-tonne beams to be lifted into place in the new year and marks a major step towards completion of the line, which will slash journey times between the Midlands, the North and London. The bridge, at Greatworth in Northamptonshire, is one of more than 100 needed for the new high-speed railway line that will run from London to the West Midlands and on to Crewe. Once complete, the new line will allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 250mph. Network Rail has now put in place a 150-tonne steel structure which will be used to lift the 1,300-tonne beams into place. The giant beams will form the bridge's deck, and will each be up to 58.5m long and 3.5m high. The deck is due to be fully completed by Spring 2023. A Network Rail spokesman said: "The completion of the bridge is a major milestone in the construction of the new high-speed railway line between London and the West Midlands. "The team has worked tirelessly to complete the bridge, which will enable the 1,300-tonne beams to be lifted into place in the new year. "This is a major step towards completing the line, which will slash journey times between the Midlands, the North and London."
